If you are updating from QTS3.8 to QTS4.0, the existing system will become a legacy volume, and the new drive will be running LVM structure. Unlike traditional hard drive usage that creates a volume with fixed space, volumes created with Thin-provisioning allocate space only when the system needs it, reducing the idle storage usage and increasing space utilization. QTS4.0’s Logical Volume Manager-LVM (logical volume manager), will integrate a group of physical disk storage pool, and then deploy the volume, providing a more flexible space management. QTS 4.0 is a new system provided by QNAP that offers more powerful features and a more user-friendly interface., If the system is updated directly from QTS 3.8.3 to QTS4.0, the system will become a legacy volume coexisting with the LVM structure, such as the desired complete upgrade QTS4.0, so that you can do a complete data backup, and upgrade the system to QTS4.0.
